Every country has its own rules and habits for every day life, what we call in other words social and cultural norms. Someone who visits or lives in a foreign country should definitely know these norms or else people will think of him as rude or strange or uncivilised. So, when we learn a foreign language, we should also learn about people's habits there, in order to a have a complete knowledge of the country and its people.
Let's say for example that you visit the United Kingdom, in order to get to know the country and practise the language you've been learning. So, you're there and you want to take the bus. There are some people waiting and you jump the queue. Then you're getting on the bus you stand too close to a passenger. Or you buy a magazine from the newsagents and you don't say "thank you". Did you know that all these things and many more, are unaccepatble, even forbidden according to the British social and cultural norms? Watch the following video and find out about the Britons' cultural and social etiquettes. At the end of the video you will find some expressions and words you heard. You can look them up in the dictionary or an online dictionary, if you want.
